Spirited Volunteer, Adesuyi, Concludes Five-day Empowerment for 41 Youngsters

Oluwatobiloba Adesuyi, a passionate volunteer, on Friday, September 16, 2022, rounded off a five-day enlightenment programme for 41 youngsters between 9 and 15 to mark her 30th birthday in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The empowerment featured life skills, first aid, home gardening, introduction to chess and scrabble, and entrepreneurship skills for both male and female children who she grew up seeing as her younger ones in her vicinity.

Different lectures at the programme included: First Aid by Oluwaseyi Ogunbiyi (Registered Nurse), Basics of Technology by Oluwanifemi Aweda (Data Analyst), Chess & Scrabble by Ayodeji Ibileye (Educationist), Home Gardening by Mrs Becky Adesuyi (Entrepreneur/Dental Therapist), Entrepreneurship by Adetola Adesuyi (Living Space Designer) and Life Skills, GBV, Hygiene, Right values for boys and girls by Oluwanifemi Ayeni (Ekiti State Coordinator, HACEY Health Initiative), among others.

While speaking on the aim of the event, Adesuyi said empowerment of youths had always been her passion, a vision she nurtured while working as a programmes officer and volunteer in a non-governmental organisation in Ondo State. Her experience and exposure taught her how to reach out to kids, and in 2022, Time Out With Oluwatobiloba (TOWO 2022) was launched.

She appreciated all facilitators, contributors, and other team members, including Gbemisola Ayandeji, Oluwatosin Atoyebi, Adetunji Adesuyi, and Elizabeth Boboye, who made the programme a huge success, promising that the event would be sustained as the kids would need follow-up and future mentorship.

The climax of the event was participants recounting all they had learnt in the space of one week, and how well they were willing to practicalise these lessons in addition to enlightening their peers.
