Ekiti Cleric Remanded for Raping Teenager

Magistrate Saka Afunsho of the Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has remanded a cleric, Olorunfemi Adebowale, at the Nigeria Correctional Centre for raping a 13-year-old girl.

The prosecutor, Olumide Bamigbade, told the court that the defendant, 25, committed the offence on or about May 16 in Ikole-Ekiti Magistrate District.

Bamigbade alleged that Afunsho, a Shepherd at the Celestial Church of Christ, lured the victim and had intercourse with her several times.

He submitted that the offence was punishable under Section 31(2) of the Child Rights Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

He therefore urged the court to remand the defendant as police investigation continue, while the duplicate case file is forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Magistrate Afunsho consequently ordered the remand of the defendant pending DPP’s advice and adjourned the case until October 17.
