Robbery suspects arrested while fighting over loot in Ogun

Two armed robbery suspects, Lekan Odusote and Monday John, have been arrested by the police while fighting over the proceed of a robbery operation in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

Odusote, 27, and John, 22, were said to have lured a commercial motorcycle operator to the Ikangba area of Obalende in the town, where they killed him and took his motorcycle away.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the suspects, residents of Sanga area and Molipa Estate respectively in Ijebu-Ode, buried the victim in a shallow grave they dug in an uncompleted building before selling his motorcycle for N120,000.

He said luck however ran out on them while fighting over the proceed of the robbery, a scuffle which alerted people nearby who subsequently informed the police.

A team of detectives was swiftly dispatched by the Divisional Police Officer of Obalende Division, Sunday Omonijo, to effect their arrest.

Oyeyemi further said, “On interrogation, they confessed to luring an Okadaman to an isolated area where they killed him and took possession of the motorcycle which they sold, but the sharing formula of the proceed caused disagreement between them.”

The corpse of the deceased had since been taken to the mortuary for post mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, ordered the transfer of the suspects to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
