The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday announced that it has deregistered 74 political parties as Nigeria prepares for the 2023 general elections.
The announcement was made by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, at a press conference in Abuja.
He stated that 75 parties didn’t satisfy the requirement but one went to court, adding that 18 parties would henceforth have the legality to operate as political parties.
The successful parties are: Accord(A), Action Alliance (AA), Action People’s Party (APP), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Boot Party (BP), Labour Party (LP)and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Others are: National Rescue Movement (NRM), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
