Senator Biodun Olujimi has condemned the murder of six persons in a cult clash in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Olujimi, who represents Ekiti South at the Nigerian Senate, expressed worries over the bloodbath, saying hooliganism and cultism should not be a way of life.
At least six persons were killed in the cult clash over the weekend at various locations in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State’s second largest town.
In a statement personally signed by the lawmaker in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, she described the incident as condemnable, unacceptable and alien to the behavioral pattern of peace-loving people of the state.
The People’s Democratic Party chieftain said, ”I condemn in totality Saturday’s cult clash in Ikere-Ekiti which claimed at least six lives. It is barbaric and inhuman to kill fellow human beings under any guise.
“The spate of kidnapping, banditry and activities of cultists has instilled phobia in the residents with residents finding it difficult to sleep with two eyes close.”
She urged security agencies to beef up security in the state, adding that security is non-negotiable and must be guaranteed.
Olujimi also called on Governor Kayode Fayemi to address the spate of cultism decisively so as to get rid of cultists and other criminal in the state.
