Abductors demand N20m ransom to free Ekiti monarch

The gunmen who abducted the Obadu of Ilemeso-Ekiti, Oba David Oyewumi, have demanded N20m ransom before they could release the monarch from captivity.

The abductors, numbering six, had on Thursday night invaded the palace of the traditional ruler and whisked him away after scaling the fence.

Ilemeso, in Oye Local government Area of Ekiti State, is a neighboring town to Isan-Ekiti country home of Governor Kayode Fayemi.

A family source said the gunmen contacted the family on Saturday evening and made the demand.

“We have been contacted. They called us around 7.03pm on Saturday and demanded that we pay a sum of N20 million for the king to be released.

“We are really worried by this demand. The family is taking further steps to ensure that Kabiyesi is released as soon as possible,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Abutu, has said the police and other security agencies are making frantic efforts to rescue the monarch.
