Vigilante commander murdered by suspected cultists

Suspected cultists have murdered the commander of a disbanded vigilante group in the Obelle community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The victim, identified as Amos, was killed when the armed men invaded the community and opened fire.

It was gathered that commander of the disbanded group called Onelga Peace Security Advisory Committee was attacked alongside another vigilante as the cultists shot at them several times before the other victim escaped.

A source said the killing had heightened tension in the community as some residents fled the area, though calm had returned with the presence of vigilante groups and security operatives.

Meanwhile, the acting spokesman of the State police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she was yet to be briefed on the incident.
