Suspected Akinyele serial killer escapes from police custody

19-year-old Sunday Shodipe, one of the suspects arrested for multiple rape and murder incidents in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, has escaped from police custody.

This was made known in a statement by the state’s police spokesperson, Olugbenga Fadeyi, on Sunday.

Fadeyi said the suspect, who was arrested and paraded alongside two others by the police on July 17, escaped on August 11.

He, however, did not disclose the events surrounding Shodipe’s escape, why the statement is coming days after and if any police officers have been detained on the issue.

The statement said, “Consequent upon this, the CP wishes to implore the general public to be on the lookout, arrest and immediately inform the officers and men of the command when sighted for immediate handing over for further action.”

It also urged youths and mobs not to carry out jungle justice when suspected criminals are arrested but to hand them over to the police.

Recall that Shodipe confessed that he got N500 and food for each of the six persons he murdered after no fewer than five persons were raped and murdered in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan in the month of June alone.

He also said he was sent on the mission by a 50-year-old herbalist, Adedokun Yinusa.
