The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Shagali, has resigned.
This was amid alleged plans by some members of the assembly to impeach him.
According to the the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Mr Tanimu Musa, the speaker “honourably tendered his resignation” on Tuesday.
The letter addressed to the Clerk of the House, read: “I, Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, Speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly, hereby resign my appointment as the Speaker of Kaduna House of Assembly on personal grounds.”
An All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker representing Sabon Gari Constituency in the House since 2011, Shagali was elected Speaker in 2015 and re-elected in 2019.
Between 2011 and 2015, Shagali was Deputy Minority Leader and Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology, Deputy Chairman, House committee on Hajj and Islamic affairs, and Deputy Chairman House Committee on Economic Planning.
