After clocking the mandatory retirement age of 60, former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, will today retire from the Nigeria Police.
Magu made headlines again few days ago following report of his elevation to the rank of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) from Commissioner of Police by the Police Service Commission Standing Committee.
The former anti-graft boss was said to have been recommended to promotion by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba but some officials in the Attorney-General Force Office had asserted that he must be cleared of the charges against him.
The Police Service Commission had, last July, declined to promote him during the promotion of 24 CPs and other officers.
“The commission declined the promotion of Magu pending clearance from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and the Office of the Inspector- General of Police,” the commission spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, had said.
Recall that Magu was suspended on July 7, 2020, a day after his arrest on allegations of corrupt practices related to finances.
