Police confirm abduction of NSCDC officials, trail suspects

Suspected kidnappers have abducted two officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Police command says.

The two officials, Francis Okunwe (Area Commander, Edo North Area Command) and Albert Egauvoen (Chief Superintendent of Corps and Divisional Officer of Irrua) were said to be on their way to Benin city, the state capital when the incident occurred.

The two officials reportedly took off through Igueben due to the bad state of the Benin-Auchi-Okenne Highway, but were attacked at Ewosaa in Igueben Local Government Area of the state.

The incident happened at about 2pm and the Toyota Sienna van they were travelling in has been recovered.

Edo Police Commissioner, Danmallam Mohammed, who confirmed the incident said a combined team of security agents had already launched a manhunt for the abductors and subsequent rescue of the victims.
