Police arrest truck driver for crushing brothers to death in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a truck driver for crushing two brothers, Ojo Hezekiah Abidemi and Ojo Ayomide, to death in Ikere-Ekiti.

The incident, which occurred at the weekend, has left the family and friends of the deceased in grief.

Abidemi, 25 and Ayomide, 21 were students of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a degree programme affiliated to the College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, before the unfortunate event.

It was gathered that the brothers making making plans to travel to Akure, Ondo State capital, to see their parents and were coming out of a petrol station when the speeding truck crushed them to death.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of Ekiti State Police Command, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the deceased bodies had been deposited in the morgue and the driver detained.

Abutu said , “It is sad and unfortunate that two young men could be killed due to avoidable accident.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that it was a case of collision and we appeal to motorists and other road users to always exercise restraint on roads.”
