Police in Ogun State have arrested three suspected cultists and serial killers, Odukoya Odushina, Subomi Popoola and Itunuoluwa Taiwo, in Ijebu Ode area of the state.
The suspect, described as three leading members of the dreaded Eiye confraternity terrorizing the town and its environs, were arrested while allegedly holding a night meeting to unleash terror on members of the community.
A statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects had attacked police officers with dangerous weapons during the raid before the arrest of the ring leader, Odushina, and others.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested suspects were not only into cultism, they were into armed robbery as well.
“It was also discovered that Odukoya Odushina had been arrested once and charged to court, but was granted bail. On the third day after he was granted bail, he went with his gang to rob at Ayegbami area of Ijebu Ode where he killed one man simply known as Baba Njo,” the statement stated.
Oyeyemi disclosed that some items, such as jewellery, phones and suspected hard drugs were recovered from them, adding that several cult killings in the area were linked to the group.
Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered comprehensive investigation and manhunt for other members of the group.
