Plane crash kills Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, seven others

A military Beachcraft 350 aircraft on Friday crashed at the Kaduna International Airport, killing Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Attahiru Ibrahim, and seven others.

According to reports, the incident occurred at the airport’s runway at about 6pm.

Confirming the crash, Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria, Akin Olateru, said, ”Beachcraft 350. 8 souls on board. Unfortunately all dead.

Earlier, the Nigerian Air Force had confirmed that an aircraft crashed near the Kaduna International Airport.

A statement by its Director of Public Relations and Information, Edward Gabkwet, and tweeted by NAF said, “An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon.”
