Following questions by Nigerians over the killings at Lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has denied involvement in the removal of cameras at the said location.
Pictures had emerged earlier on that day, showing a man carrying some equipment away from the spot. Upon circulating the pictures, protesters said the equipment, which was widely accepted as CCTV cameras was removed and the lights turned off so that video evidence would not be found.
Speaking in a virtual interview on Arise TV on Thursday, the Governor said what was carried away were infrared cameras for vehicles, which picks the number plates of approaching cars, and not CCTV cameras.
Meanwhile, Lekki Concession Company (LCC) also released a statement, denying the removal.
