‘Nnamdi Kanu not arrested in the UK’

The British High Commission in Nigeria has refuted claims that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was not arrested in the United Kingdom.

Attorney General of the Federation, AGF Abubakar Malami, had announced Kanu’s arrest on Tuesday, though he failed to state where the IPOB leader was arrested.

The spokesman, British High Commission in Nigeria, Dean Hurlock, said he was not aware of reports that Nnamdi Kanu has been detained in Nigeria by the Federal Government, adding that, ”We can confirm that Nnamdi Kanu was not arrested in the UK for extradition purposes”.

Recall that Kanu was arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday and was later remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services.

His trial was adjourned to July 26 and 27, 2021.
