NDLEA Arrests Village Head, Raids Residence

Operatives of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Umar Mohammed, the village head of Ruga in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State, for being in possession of Cannabis Sativa and Diazepam.

The agency’s commander in the state, Adamu Iro, made this known to journalists on Tuesday, saying the suspected drug dealer was apprehended following a long intelligence-driven investigation.

“Earlier, we arrested his wife in possession of a large amount of illicit drugs, but we released her following an investigation that the items belonged to the husband.

“So, Alhamdulillah, on Monday, we have been able to nab him, and we found 436.381 kg of Cannabis Sativa and 1 kg of Diazepam at his residence,” Iro said.

The commander disclosed that Mohammed confessed to committing the crime and being in the business for a long time.

While appealing to citizens to support the agency in its determination to raid all traffickers’ dens and prosecute offenders, Iro said the current investigation would be proper but speedy.
