Following the reactions that trailed an apology text message and video link sent to its customers, MTN Nigeria has said the contents are not fake as being speculated.
Some subscribers had, early in the day, got a message with a video link to the telecom CEO’s apology for network outage, a development that has caused argument as some Nigerians said the message is fake.
The highlight of the message was the 1MB of data which was reportedly sent to customers as compensation.
Reacting through a message on its social media pages and subsequently with the CEO’s apology video, MTN said the link is genuine and the video is that of its CEO, Karl Olutokun Toriola.
The reaction read, ” The video from MTN CEO, Karl Olutokun Toriola is genuine.
”It was sent as an apology for the network outage on October 9. The SMS tag is MTNCEO KARL and the link to the video is bit.ly/message-from-karl.
”Customers who made calls or used data on their phones between 12 pm and 7 pm yesterday October 16, has been given a refund.”
MTN therefore said customers who got 1MB data notification should disregard, adding that they should dial *556# to ”view the now correct compensation balance”.
