Man arrested for stabbing brother to death in Ekiti

Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Ebenezer Olorunleke, for allegedly killing his brother, Sunday Olorunleke, at Abe Koko, Oke-Ila Area of Ado-Ekiti, the state’s capital.

Ebenezer, 25, allegedly led three others to his brother’s house on Thursday, August 29, 2019 and stabbed him to death while attempting to rob him.

The news went viral about two weeks ago when the body of the deceased was found in his room. His wife and children had travelled during the incident and came back on Saturday, August 31, to meet him lifeless.

Ekiti State Police Commisoner, Asuquo Amba, said the suspects were armed with dangerous weapons at the time of the incident and made away with the victim’s cash and Bajaj motorcycle.

”On 29/08/2019, at about 1700hrs, one Olorunleke Ebenzer and three (3) others armed with dangerous weapon, conspired and went to the deceased house (Olorunleke Sunday) at Abe koko, Oke-Ila Area of Ado-Ekiti who happens to be his brother and stabbed the deceased to death.

”The suspect made away with his Bajaj motorcycle reg. No. ADK 100 UJ red colour and cash after commission of the crime.

”Investigation by homicide team of the State Criminal Investigation Department led to the arrest of the gang leader and subsequent recovery of the stolen valuables. The suspect confessed to the crime.”

He said the deceased and his wife obtained a 200,000 naira loan to buy the motorcycle for commercial use, but the brother became jealous and carried out the dastardly act.

Speaking on his involvement, the suspect said he didn’t ask his friends to kill his brother but only told them to collect money from him.

”I was with my friends at the garage, I told them I was going back to my state, Kogi, and I wanted to sell my plasma TV. They asked about my brother and I said he didn’t help me. Then they said they will help me to collect money from him.

”When we got to the house, they told me to stay outside. They stabbed my brother, so I ran inside and saw my brother shouting on the floor. I called him and he opened his eyes and asked me why I did that to him. I told him the whole story that I didn’t tell them to kill him.

”I wanted to rush him to the hospital but he bit my little finger and I didn’t have the strength to carry him. That was when he died,” the suspect said.

Ebenezer claimed that he left the scene with nothing but his friends wanted to sell the deceased motorcycle, so he collected it from them and fled to Aramoko Ekiti because they wanted to kill him.

He, however, said he didn’t know the real names of the other three suspects.

Meanwhile, police authority has said the suspect will appear in court after investigations are concluded, but operatives are still on the trail of those at large.
