Lockdown violation: Police arraign Naira Marley, manager

The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday arraigned popular musician, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, known professionally as Naira Marley, before the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Oshodi, for violating movement restriction and interstates travel ban order.

This was made known in a statement by the state’s Police Command spokesperson, SP Bala Elkana.

Naira Marley was arraigned alongside his Manager, Ms Seyi Awouga, on a one-count charge of breach of cessation of movement and interstates travel order made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under Regulation 4(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease Emergency Prevention) Regulation No 2 of 2020 and committed an offence punishable under Section 58 Public Health Law, Ch. P16, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The police said the musician, on June 13, ”in total violation of the lockdown order, embarked on a non essential travel from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos the same date, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja for a musical concert in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja”.

The statement said when the charge was read to the accused persons, they pleaded guilty and were ordered to pay a fine of one hundred thousand naira each by the presiding Magistrate.

Recall that on June 13, the singer embarked on a non-essential travel from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos the same date, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, for a musical concert in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The concert was organised by Play Network Africa, Traffic Bar, and El’Carnival, and was sponsored by Glenfiddich.
