The Lagos State Police Command has detained a lady identified as Omotoyosi for allegedly raising false alarm that she was being kidnapped and raped.
The suspect had, on Thursday morning, posted the controversial distress post on twitter, stating that she was being held against her will.
She subsequently mentioned a location and released some numbers to the public, claiming it was the kidnappers’.
She however deleted the post minutes later and tweeted that the claim was false.
“I tweeted earlier that I was kidnapped and raped. It’s false. I’m so sorry for this. Please stop calling and threatening the numbers,” she wrote.
She further released a video where she said, “I am fine. I was not kidnapped or raped. I am fine and I am not making this video under duress or anything. I am very okay, I am in my house. Please stop calling or threatening those numbers. Thank you very much.”
This generated a lot of outrage on social media as many people cast aspersions on her.
She, however, voluntarily presented herself to the police.
Reacting, the spokesman of the state’s police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “The lady has voluntarily presented herself at the police station. Questioning is ongoing. We will keep you updated.”
