Kogi bank robbery: Police launch manhunt for perpetrators, deploy experts

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has ordered a full-scale manhunt to apprehend members of the robbery gang who invaded Isanlu Police station in Yagba East Local Government area of Kogi State and the First Bank branch in the town on Thursday.

The daredevils who attacked the police station and killed policemen, including the Division Police Officer, also invaded the bank and carted away an unknown amount of money.

At least a civilian was also shot dead during the attack.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank MBA, on Friday, the IGP has deployed experts and intelligence units to fish out the perpetrators.

The statement said, ”The IGP, while condemning the incident, has deployed a team of crack detectives from the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the Special Tactical Squad (STS) and Federal-SARS to Kogi State to ensure that the criminals are apprehended and brought to book.

”The IGP has also directed the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of the Zone-8 Police Headquarters, Lokoja, AIG Yunana Babas, mni to immediately assess and review the security arrangement in Kogi State and environ so as to prevent any future occurrence of such untoward incident in the State.”

Mba said the AIG would personally oversee the manhunt and also unravel ”the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.”

While condoling with the family of the deceased, the spokesman said the IGP has called on citizens to remain calm and assist the police with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the robbers.
