Justice Usman Na’abba of the Kano State High Court has sentenced a 19-year-old man, Ibrahim Khalil, to death by hanging for killing his five-year-old nephew, Ahmad Ado.
Khalil was convicted on two-count of kidnapping and culpable homicide after he stood trial for sellotaping the deceased nose and mouth before burying him.
He revealed that Khalil abducted his sister’s son and used a sellotape to cover his nose and mouth before burying him in a shallow grave at Sabuwar Sheka, Kano.
During trial, the prosecution presented three witnesses and four exhibits to prove its case after the defendant pleaded not guilty to the counts.
The defense counsel, Barr. Aisha Abdulkadir, also presented the defendant as lone witness and pleaded for clemency.
Delivering judgment, Justice Na’abba said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and established the offences of kidnapping and homicide.
He therefore sentenced Khalil to 14 years imprisonment for kidnapping while he held a death sentence against him for homicide.
