Judge withdraws from Sowore’s suit, gives reason

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja has withdrawn from the fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by the RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, seeking an order for his release from custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Justice Mohammed ruled on Monday that he could not hear Sowore’s case in view of the publications by his medium, Sahara Reporters, accusing him of taking bribe in a case.

It would be recalled that the case was the trial of a former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, who is currently standing trial before Justice Okon Abang.

Justice Mohammed said the publications came out in 2016 and 2019, adding that the actions made him withdraw from the case.

He stated that if he ruled in favour of Sowore, it could be seen as the aftermath of blackmail, and if he ruled otherwise, it could be seen as revenge.

He therefore ordered that the case file be sent back to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, for reassignment.
