Insecurity: NSCDC to secure schools against bandits

Authorities of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday said its personnel would be deployed to designated schools across the country amid the wave of banditry and kidnapping.

This is coming hours after students, teachers and others were kidnapped at Government Secondary School, Lagbara, Nigeria state.

Acting Commandant General, Hillary Kelechi Madu, who addressed pressmen shortly after opening a meeting with all states and zonal commanders of the Corps in Abuja, emphasised the urgency of the deployment.

“We must play our roles to justify the huge funding of this institution by the government and there is no better time to do this than now.

In the past, we focused on arresting pipeline vandals and other saboteurs, but now, the security situation in the country is a pointer for us to show our relevance by acting decisively to restore peace and orderliness,“ Madu maintained.

The Acting Commandant General also revealed that the NSCDC Commander in Niger State could not make it to the meeting due to the search and rescue operation going on.

Madu noted that all the twelve security institutions in the country should accept blame for the current security challenges despite their efforts, adding that the job is only done when peace return to the nation.

He further disclosed that NSCDC has about 5,000 mediators and conflict resolution experts to mediate farmers-herders crisis.

Madu therefore urged all and sundry to inform the Corps of activities that fuel insecurity, while promising that indiscipline and unprofessionalism would not be allowed among personnel.
