The Independent Nation Electoral Commission has postponed the Enugu East Senatorial District Election till 11th March, the date for Governorship and States Houses of Assembly elections.
The election, which should have been held tomorrow, 25 February, was rescheduled due to the killing of the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Oyibo Chukwu.
Announcing the postponement at a briefing in Abuja on Friday, INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said political parties in the district can continue campaign until 10th March.
“I expect the party to conduct primaries as early as next week,” he added.
It would be recalled that Chukwu was killed on Wednesday evening by unknown persons alongside five others in his vehicle.
