It was a gory site on Tuesday as suspected gunmen attacked the convoy of Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, killing three policemen and a civilian.
The incident occurred around Gako hill in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.
According to sources, the Deputy Governor was heading to Abuja for the swearing-in of ministers scheduled to take place today when the gunmen suspected to be armed robbers opened fire on his convoy.
The escort commander was said to have been informed of the presence of the gunmen, which prompted him to stop the convoy and went forward with two other mobile police officers and the civilian driver to fend off the gunmen.
However, the gunmen opened fire on the oncoming Hilux van, killing all four occupants. The rifles of the officers were also said to be taken away by the assailants.
Another source stated that the whole convoy ran into the armed robbers while they were operating, prompting them to open fire before escaping into the bush.
