Game of Thrones star, Diana Rigg, dies at 82

English actress, Dame Diana Rigg, known for her character as Olenna Tyrell in HBO’s Game of Thrones has died at the age of 82.

Her agent announced her death on Thursday, saying Rigg “died peacefully early this morning. She was at home with her family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time.”

Rigg rose to prominence in the 1960s after her role as Emma Peel in The Avengers. She also had a career in theatre, including playing the title role in Medea, both in London and New York, for which she won the 1994 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play, among other roles and awards.

She was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 1988 New Year Honours and a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for services to drama in the 1994 Birthday Honours.

Her movies include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, A Good Man in Africa, Heidi, Evil Under the Sun, Snow White, and Breathe, among others.

Rigg also starred in a psychological horror film titled “The Painted Veil”, which will be released on April 23, 2021.
