President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate reopening of the Nigeria’s land borders.
Buhari gave the directive on Wednesday, days after the Federal Government said the aim of the closure had been achieved.
The Presidency, on its Twitter handle said, “President Buhari has directed the immediate opening of four land borders: Seme, Illela, Maigatari, and Mfun.”
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, had after a Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, said Seme Border in Lagos State, Illela Border in Sokoto State, Maigatari Border in Jigawa State, and Mfun Border in Cross River State are now open.
Ahmed further disclosed that other borders would be reopened before December 31, 2020.
Recall that the Federal Government said the closure became necessary to stop the illegal importation of arms and agricultural products from neighbouring countries.
The land borders had been closed since August 2019.
