Ekiti traditional rulers task FG on borders security

Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, HRH Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe and his Iyin-Ekiti counterpart, the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeniyi Ajakaiye, on Friday tasked the Federal Government to look into Nigeria’s porous borders which they alleged aid the activities of kidnappers across the country.

The royal fathers gave the advice during the maiden royal visit of the Oluyin to the Ewi-in-Council at the palace of the Ewi in Ado-Ekiti.

The Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government area of Ekiti State was presented with the staff and instrument of office on September 18, 2020.

The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti said majority of those that allegedly escaped from kidnappers relayed their gory experience, which are not good enough, noting that most of the kidnappers were not Nigerians.

“Those escapees revealed that most of the kidnappers are foreigners, hence we should ensure that our forests are no longer habitable for foreigners, especially the unfriendly ones.

“Aside from that, the government needs to look into the area of unemployment, especially among our youths. Ekiti State alone produce graduates yearly, but there is no work for them at the end. There is no single industry in Ekiti, which makes employment even more difficult.

“I know that government is trying very hard on this by all the various empowerments and palliatives that are made available, but I urge the government to redouble it’s efforts.

“Everybody should be security conscious, report any stranger that is seen in our environment. The issue of security is now for everybody to play their part and should not be left alone in the hands of the government,” Ewi pleaded.

Also, the Oluyin, while corroborating Ewi’s position, advised the government to restructure the security agencies for optimal performance.

He said the government should look into making graduates the entry point into the Nigerian Police and also localize the force.

He maintained that when degree becomes an entry point into the Police Force, it becomes easy for government to manage them better and when localised, they will work more effectively because they will understand their terrain better.

He therefore urged the government to look into their take home, because their take home doesn’t take them home at all.

“They need motivation, all these things that I mentioned are the things that has been making the Police Force to be prone to any form of adversity,” the royal father said.
