Ekiti in diaspora launches group in US to propel Oni’s ambition

Taking cognisance of his impressive performance in his first term as Ekiti State Governor and strong moral upbringing, Ekiti professionals in the United States of America have established a group to propel the governorship ambition of Engr Segun Oni.

The group, which has been constituted into ‘Ekiti in Diaspora for Segun Oni’, branded the former governor and current candidate of the Social Democratic Party as the best for Ekiti in terms of character, financial discipline and grassroots appeal to pilot Ekiti after Governor Kayode Fayemi.

A statement by the Convener of the Washington DC-based group, Mr Samuel Ayodele-Ogunbanwo, on Tuesday said Ekiti professionals’ backing for Oni was not borne out of partisan interest, but for the populace as the former governor would serve diligently if voted into office.

Ayodele-Ogunbanwo appealed to Ekiti electorate to de-emphasize partisan interests or political attachments in the June 18 poll and vote for someone that can be trusted and with innate capacity to deliver like Oni.

“In the interest of our people, Ekiti professionals in Washington DC and in United States have formed a support group named Ekiti in Diaspora for Segun Oni to propel former Governor Segun Oni’s ambition.

“We are disturbed and rattled by the parlous state of our economy and the suffering being unleashed on our people due to bad governance, gross abuse and misuse of powers, as well as reckless and mind boggling corruption being perpetrated by our political leaders.

“This is an apolitical body, but we are of that view that the trend of governance in Ekiti must change for better.

“Segun Oni had been tested and we could all attest to that fact that he can be trusted with power. He has a proven integrity.

“We are all together in this racs to bring back the lost glory and the credo of ‘Omoluabi’ that Ekiti people are known for by electing a man that can bring back our pride. So help us God.”
