Eid al-Fitr: No sight of crescent moon as fasting continues Wednesday

The Ramadan fasting will continue on Wednesday as Haramain Sharifain, an Islamic agency in Saudi Arabia, and Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting committee has announced.

Haramain Sharifain declared that fasting in the month of Ramadan continues on Wednesday while Eid-al-Fitr will be held on Thursday.

In a tweet on Tuesday, the agency announced that Ramadan will last for 30 days.

“The Crescent for the month of Shawwal 1442 was NOT SEEN today, subsequently #EidUlFitr will be on Thursday, 13 May 2021,” the tweet reads.

Reports say the conclusion was derived from the findings of astronomers positioned at different locations in Saudi Arabia, including Sumair and Tumair.

Similarly, Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting committee said the crescent of the month of Shawwal could not be seen from the Tamir observatory.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria had earlier announced Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays for this year’s Eid-al-Fitr.
