The Nigeria’s male basketball team, D’Tigers, on Sunday qualified for Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics after beating host China in front of a home crowd in Guangzhou at the ongoing 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The team thrashed China 86-73 and finished as the top African team with a reward of an automatic ticket to the 2020 Summer Olympics to be held in Japan.
The Nigerians beat African champions, Tunisia, to the ticket after Sunday’s crucial win. Both teams finished with three wins from five games but D’Tigers got the ticket due to better goal difference.
D’Tigers had played 81-94 with Argentina on Monday, 108-66 with South Korea on Wednesday, and 83-66 with Cote d’Ivoire on Friday before the crucial Sunday match.
