Buruji was a vibrant member of the PDP and represented Ogun East at the Nigerian Senate between 2015 and 2019.
He was appointed as the chairman, Organization and Mobilization Committee of the PDP in the South West zone. In 2018, he was expelled from the party, a decision later voided by an Abuja High Court in October 2018.
He was also the 2019 gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Ogun State.
