Chief David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged the winner of the party’s governorship primary in Bayelsa.
He scored 42,138 votes on Wednesday to become APC’s flagbearer for the November 16 Bayelsa State Governorship election.
His closest rival, Diseye Nsirim, scored 1,533 votes while Ebitimi Amgbare scored 633 votes. Others were Heineken Lokpobiri with 571 votes, Maureen Etebu with 564 votes and Preye Aganaba with 354 votes.
The result was announced by the Chief Coalition Officer, Emmanuel Dangana, while Governor Mai-Mala Buni of Yobe served as the Returning Officer.
He said the mode was direct primary as agreed by Bayelsa stakeholders, and confirmed by the party’s National Working Committee.
The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), stakeholders and state leaders had adopted the direct primary mode to select their candidate in the state.
