The General Overseer of the Word Bible Church, Prophet Julius Babatunde Kumoluyi, has urged the federal government to place more priority the education sector to end the current insecurity challenges in the country.
He stated that the amount of money being spent on the school feeding programme by the federal government should have been used to provide free education across the nation.
Kumoluyi made this remark while speaking with newsmen in his country home, Igbara-Odo, in Ekiti South West Local Government area of Ekiti State ahead of the 30th anniversary of the ministry.
The cleric maintained that the billions of naira spent on the programme was enough to give quality education to children across Nigeria, adding that parents would provide food for their wards if education is free.
“I think the insecurity we have in our country today shows the government has to wake up to its responsibilities. Government responsibility have been neglected in the area of availability of employment opportunities. The jobs are not available.
” What do you want someone who passed out from the university after 10 years with no job to do? It is very sad situation and that is why they are looking for ways to survive. The way things are going, it might get worse until the government perform their own responsibilities.
” If you calculate the amount they are spending on this school feeding, it’s enough to set up free education in this country. To me, this is the reality because everybody can feed their children,” he said.
He stated further that the government should build industries that will facilitate the employment of thousands of youths.
According to him,” In America and the UK, you will be given loan to further your education and when you start working, you will pay back.
” This might not work in Nigeria due to dubious character of some Nigerians. But the government can do something like picking 500 people in each state of the federation every year to have free education up to university level. People are talking about Obafemi Awolowo and these are the things he did that makes his name to be immortalized. People are still talking about him till today. Awolowo impacted people’s lives positively.”
On the menace of internet fraud among the youths, Kumoluyi said it was as a result of government’s failure to have clear-cut plans for the people.
” All the money collected from looters, people are expecting them to use the money to establish industries where our children can work but I don’t know whether they are planning to do it. I pray God give the leaders knowledge to do what is expected, ” he maintained.
