Youths in Ondo town, under the aegis of Ondo Ekimogun Youths Congress (OEYC), has elected new executive officers that will pilot the affairs of the association in the next four years.
The election which was conducted in line with the COVID-19 protocols as stipulated by the government was monitored by the men of Nigerian Army, Police, officials of the Department State Security Services (DSS), men of the Ondo State Security Corps (Amotekun), among others.
Announcing the result amidst tight security, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Omolayo Omotayo, declared Lucas Famakinwa as the winner of the election after he polled 65 out the total 80 votes cast to defeat Adewale Omotayo, who polled 11 votes in the election.
Others who were elected into various positions are Florence Obafemi, Vice-president, Alex Olubusade, General Secretary, Blessing Akinyamoju, Assistant General Secretary, Bisoye Akinmolaju, Treasurer, Tolu Abubakar, Financial Secretary, while Kayode Olamigoke was elected as the Public Relation Officer.
Akinlolu Akinpelumi was also elected as the Social Director, while Tope Olabanji and Akinduro Michael were elected as Sport Director and Auditor respectively.
Speaking with journalists after he emerged victorious, the newly elected President of the OEYC, Lucas Famakinwa, described the election as another landmark achievement in the history of the association since it was inaugurated in the area few years ago.
Famakinwa appreciated members of the Electoral Committee, members of the Osemawe-in-Council, Landlords Associations in the community, leaders of the association as well as security agencies for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
He promised to do everything within his capacity to move the association to greater heights and initiate more programmes that would have direct impacts on the lives of his members.
On the forthcoming election, he promised that his members would ensure continuous peace and would not be used as agents of distraction by groups or politicians.
He therefore solicited for the support of all members, especially his major challenger during the election, saying such support would go a long way in ensuring that peace, progress and development in which the youths in the town are known for is achieved.
Similarly, the immediate past President of the association, Mr. Eric Famogun, described the peaceful conduct of the election as another historic achievement, while he commended members for their level of maturity and decorum during the exercise.
He charged the new executive members to run a transparent administration and allow every members to contribute to the development of Ondo town.
Performing the swearing-in and presentation of certificates to the newly elected officers, the legal adviser of the association, Barr. Folorunsho Kolawole, urged them to initiate more developmental projects in the town while repositioning the association for efficiency and better service delivery.
