The Golden Eaglets have advanced to the next stage of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil despite a 2-1 loss to Australia in the final group match on Friday evening.
The only goal for Nigeria was from Peter Olawale, while Noah Botic scored a brace for Australia.
The Joeys outshone Eaglets at the Estádio Bezerrão stadium in Gama but dropped to the 3rd position on the group table after Ecuador beat Hungary 3-2.
Nigeria finished with six points, Ecuador came 2nd with 6 points, Australia got 4 points, while Hungary finished 4th with one point. Nigeria however had goal difference advantage to top the group.
The tournament’s Round of 16 will commence on Tuesday.
