The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reiterated its commitment to partnering the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) on zero road crashes during the yuletide period.
This was made known by the Ekiti State Operation Head, Mr Olusegun Afolayan, during the 2019 flagged off of ‘Operation Eagle Eyes’ in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.
Afolayan said the agency would partner with FRSC in Ekiti to ensure that the road is safe and free for travellers, adding that the exercise will create a platform for rescuers to save lives on highways during emergencies.
He stated that ambulances and rescue teams would be stationed at strategic places, especially on the highways to rescue in events of crashes.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Ekiti State, Mrs Faustina Alegbe, appreciated the NEMA teams for the timely intervention and collaboration in ensuring safety of road users.
She advised drivers to be cautious, avoid alcohol intake and rest adequately before embarking on any journey, adding that they should ensure proper functioning of their vehicles at all times.
The FRSC boss stressed that officers would be on the road to check documents and address issues of overloading, expired tyres, receiving calls while driving and overspeeding.
