Sequel to the alarming rate of rape across the country, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has launched social media campaign against the menace.
The campaign is expected to go round the social media in all the 36 states of the federation.
NAWOJ President, Mrs Ify Omowole, gave the directive following a virtual meeting with all the state chairpersons of the Association.
The campaign, according to NAWOJ President, is expected to go viral between Monday and Sunday, 15th – 26th June, 2020.
NAWOJ Chairperson in Ekiti state, Mrs Fatima Bello, told newsmen in Ado-Ekiti that “Nawojians in their various states are mandated on intensive social media campaigns against rape.
” NAWOJ is worried by reported cases of incessant rape across the country and the association is determined to professionally tackle the menace, using various platforms
” Women Journalists are sad over maltreatments and gruesome killings of female child in the hand of rapists.”
NAWOJ therefore called on government and relevant stakeholders to strengthen family units with adequate focus on education and health care system to enable proper parenting.
