Water intake: Simple facts you should know

By Tosin Yinka-Olagunju

75% of body weight contains water, and just as fishes cannot live without water, so is humans without red blood cells and white blood cells.

The human blood contains 83% water, gray matter of the brain contains 5% water, body muscles contain 75% water and the bone marrow has 20%-25%. Consequently, all these require water to perform their functions

Your body continues to loose its water through breathing, sweating, urination and stooling, hence, if you don’t take water to replenish it, it will result in dehydration that will impair your body’s normal functions. This might also affect the body’s cooling mechanism and body temperature might rise.

Furthermore, insufficient intake of water will reduce sweating and urination output, causing inefficient clearance of body waste.

Generally, insufficient intake of water might cause headache, dizziness, muscular aches and pains, etc.

Thus, it is important to drink at least a cup of water immediately you wake up. This helps to clear toxins from your body, keeps your skin glowing and aids blood flow.

Ultimately, drink at least 2 litres of water every day.
