Use Your Position to End ASUU Strike, Ekiti NLC Appeals to Fayemi

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ekiti State Council, has appealed to Governor Kayode Fayemi to use his influence as the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum to intervene and resolve the ongoing impasse between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

The NLC Chairman made this known on Tuesday while addressing newsmen at the Labour House in Ado-Ekiti.

The NLC Chairman, Mr Kolapo Olatunde, explained that the situation requires urgent steps to put an end to it because of its consequential effects on the nation’s economy, education sector and future of the students.

He urged Governor Fayemi to reach out to the President and the Minister of Labour so as to put heads together towards bringing the issue to a logical end.

” The Academic Staff Union of Universities and other unions had embarked on strike for almost five months now with no end in sight,” he lamented.

Speaking on the solidarity protest held by NLC nationwide in support of university workers, Mr Olatunde disclosed that the demonstration in Ekiti State was almost hijacked by some elements.

According to him, the concern elements succeeded in inciting some other members to attack the leadership of NLC and desecrate the office of the Chairman.

He said though he had forgiven those involved being a God-fearing and respected leader, but they would still be informed of the position of the State Administrative Council on the matter.

Olatunde noted that he had briefed the national leadership on the matter in line with labour procedure.
