The government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may face the wrath of the teeming members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and probably other members of non-ASUU unions in public varsities in Nigeria, as salaries of these members have continued to be delayed for months now since President Tinubu ordered that their payment been reversed to GIMFISS from the stifling IPPIS the former government of Ex-President Mohammadu Buhari had forced them into.
Findings by our Correspondent revealed that while a branch of the University of Jos, had since declared strike action, over the continued delay in the payment of the salaries up to the tenth day of the succeeding month, the national body of ASUU had also directed all members to embark on strike action at the instance of the failure of the Tinubu government to make their payment available from July 3rd, 2025. The directive made available to us reads in part:
Dear Comrades, The failure of the Federal Government of Nigeria to pay monthly salary to deserving Academic Staff in our Universities has become a reccurring decimal.
Consequent upon this, it is thought expedient to intimate you, after a forgetfulness induced by Bayelsa wine that led to the omission of the information from our Congress agenda, and a stimulus induced prodding from members jolted me from the anorexia induced by non-payment of EAA, that the National had made a pronouncement thus:
_If salaries are not paid after the third day of every month, the Branch should immediately proceed on strike, after a Congress, until the salary is paid._
The EAA computation was partly responsible for the non information.
Sequel to this, I want to suggest that we should monitor the situation until Monday, 7th of July, 2025. If salary fails to drop, a Congress will be called to declare the strike, in accordance with the National directive, so that the Branch will not run foul of National directive.
The late information is highly regretted. It is expedient to disclose that our University Administration is in no way responsible for the delay in salary payment.
