Sexual harassment: FUOYE suspends lecturer, begins investigation

The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Media Arts, Dr. Desen Jonathan Mbachaga, over an alleged sexual harassment.

According to the media office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Abayomi Fasina, the Associate Professor was suspended following an initial evidence against him.

In a statement signed by the Chief Information Officer to the Vice Chancellor, Mr Foluso Ogunmodede, Mbachaga’s suspension came after a committee inaugurated by the institution to investigate the alleged sexual harrassment established a prima facie evidence against him.

The statement said, ”However, the suspension which was with immediate effect would pave the way for a five-member committee set up by the Vice-Chancellor to further probe the allegation with a view to getting to the root of the allegation of sexual harassment against the embattled lecturer.”

Ogunmodede added that following the Vice Chancellor’s approval of Mbachaga’s suspension, he has also ”mandated the Dean Faculty of Arts, Prof. Tajudeen Opoola, to conduct proper investigation into another allegation of sexual harrassment against another lecture in the same department, Dr. Agofure, and submit a report in due time for necessary actions.”
