Sex for grades: NGO removes Igbeneghu as BoT member

More trouble has emerged for embattled University of Lagos lecturer, Dr Boniface Igbeneghu, as The Adekunle Child Foundation (TACF), a Non-Governmental Organisation for vulnerable children, has suspended him as a member of its Board of Trustee after his sexual assault video went viral.

The suspension was the third for Igbeneghua as University of Lagos and Foursquare Gospel Church had earlier suspended him as lecturer and pastor respectively.

According to a press statement on its Twitter handle, the NGO dissociated itself from Igbeneghua’s action and consequently suspended him as a BoT member.

The statement read: ”The attention of the Board of Trustees of The Adekunle Child Foundation (TACF) has been drawn to online reports and video clips about Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu, a lecturer at the University of Lagos.

”Regarding his alleged involvement in sexual harassment of female students. The Board of Trustees of which he is a member, condemns this act in its totality and dissociates the Foundation from this act.

”The Foundation acknowledges the vulnerability of children for whose cause it was established. In this regard, the Foundation champions the cause of these children, many of whom are beneficiaries of its scholarship scheme.

”We also have a robust Child Protection Policy in place adopted by the Board of Trustees with which we keep faith. This act we state categorically is at variance with the ideals for which the Foundation stands.

”The Board has therefore resolved to suspend the said member pending the outcome of the on-going investigations.”

It would be recalled that Igbenegua was caught on tape with BBC Africa Eye undercover journalist who posed as a 17-year-old admission seeker, from whom the lecturer made sexual demands.
