The Nigerian Senate on Monday lost another member, Rose Oko, a senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District.
Oko, 63, died on Monday evening after a brief illness in London, United Kingdom.
A member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Oko was Chairman of Senate Committee on Trade and Investment.
The death of the second-term member brings to three the number of senators who lost their lives in the last four months. All Progressives Congress (APC) Benjamin Uwajumogu died in December, 2019 while Senator Ignatius Longjan of the same party died in February, 2020.
Oko was a member of the House of Representatives representing Yala/Ogoja Federal Constituency as the first female representative from her constituency in June 2011 and was Deputy Chairman House Committee on Education.
She was elected as the first female representative from her Senatorial District in June 2015 and re-elected in 2019.
