The recent xenophobic attacks on foreigners in South Africa have infuriated some Zambian students who on Wednesday attacked the South African Embassy in Lusaka, the country’s capital.
The students defied huge police presence and approached the embassy to achieve their aim as they set properties ablaze.
Despite being addressed by the Zambian General Police Inspector, Kakoma Kanganja and his police team, the protesters seemed bent on their mission.
This came shortly after Zambia cancelled an international friendly football match against South Africa, which was slated for next weekend in Lusaka.
“This is because of the security concerns, you never know what can happen,” Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Secretary-General Adrian Kashala, told AFP. “We want to be sure of the security of (the) visiting team.”
