The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected “one chance” robbers who specialised in robbing passengers in Akure, the state capital.
The suspects were 36-year-old Akin David, 42-year-old Kayode Akinlosolu and 32-year-old Adekunle Blessing.
In a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, on Sunday, the police said at about 5:35pm on April 16, two ladies boarded a taxi at Roadblock on Benin/Owo/Ilesha expressway, Akure, and one of them was robbed of her Infinix Smart 5 phone.
Odunlami stated that the taxi driver ordered the ladies to alight midway into the journey with an excuse that the cab was no longer going their way.
She said, “The case was reported to the police and through intelligence gathering the three suspects were arrested with the taxi marked BDR 743XA and one stolen itel android phone was also recovered from them.”
The statement revealed that the suspects confessed to being serial robbers whose area of specialty was using taxis to rob unsuspecting passengers of their phones and other valuables.
It therefore urged members of the public to be conscious of their environment and the vehicles they board.
Meanwhile, the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
