Nigerian engineer launches Coronavirus Daily Update mobile app

A young Nigerian software engineer, Odunayo Mohammed, has launched a Coronavirus Daily Update mobile appl as his contribution to the fight against the global pandemic.

Launched 10 days ago, the application is said to focus on getting valid and proven information across to users in the shortest possible time to curb the spread of fake news on coronavirus.

The 27-year-old Ondo State indigene who described himself as an “Expert Level Full Stack Developer with over 7 years experience’ said the mobile application would serve Nigeria and the world in general as all hands are on deck to bring an end to the COVID-19 menace.

According to him, “The application stands to reduce the spread of fake and unhealthy news, which may result in making people panic, which, in turn, can worsen the already existing case.”

Mohammed said the application has sections for fatality rates (sex-and-age-group-based), the Incubation Period of the virus and its signs, as well as expert opinions from around the world on what COVID-19 is and what it’s not.

He added that every piece of information on the application is sourced directly from WorldOMeter which sources its information from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and numerous top healthcare organisations around the world.

Mohammed, who said he built the application all by himself in less than a week, also disclosed that he has created an API that would later be made public for developers like himself to feed off of the same dataset and create solutions for free.

Meanwhile, as at Tuesday morning, the application had 6090 downloads from countries around the world.
