A 42-year-old man, Kayode John, has been arraigned at the Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ido-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and impersonation.
John, a resident of Ido-Ekiti, allegedly conspired with others at large to impersonate Prophet Olu Alo of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Adamimogo Outreach.
According to the prosecutor, Sergeant Ighala Emmanuel, the suspect and others at large committed the offence between 2019 and 2021.
Ighala alleged that the accused person told people in and around Ido-Ekiti that he was the last child of the prophet’s parents with the name Kayode Alo and had performed a miracle in the clergyman’s name, a feat which made him acquire a piece of land in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The charges contravened sections 516A and 484 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol 1 Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2012 respectively.
The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate J.A Ayodele therefore granted him a hundred thousand naira (N100,000) bail with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be a Level 14 officer in the civil service who resides within the jurisdiction of the court.
The officer was also requested to provide copies of appointment letter, last promotion letter and ID card.
Ayodele adjourned the case till March 8, 2021.
